Today while traveling to work, I had to stop on a traffic signal and there I witnessed a fellow (may be of around 25-30 years) carrying a small child of about 2-3 years and begging. There was nothing strange about this site but what struck me was that a hand of the child (the left one) was amputed and a bandage was tied to the same. It looked quite recently done and could have been for any reasons.
But knowing the beggers (especially after the movie “traffic signal”), it woont be a surprise if the hand of the child was cut off on purpose. Again this was not a surprise but the main reason for me to create this account on wordpress and start writting was the thoughts that occured to me after witnessing this scene…
Knowing the child has suffered for no reason, knowing he would be dragged into unfair practices for no fault of his, what have a I done? What Can I do? Am I affected by it? Isnt there anything that I can do to stop this? Who can do such a barbaric thing? didnt he/she felt anything while cutting off the hand? Who was the person carrying the child? was he really related? was the child abducted or may be one of the fellows thron in the dustbins?
And the most influential thought was: Are we really worth being called “Humans” (My definition of humans here is one who can feel. One who is sensitive, one who cannot bear pain, one who values relations, One who is humble towards small kids, etc)
I’m writing this blog to find out if it is only me who is troubled by the thought and yet not doing anything towards the same?
How can I help the child: I cannot skip work to try and help such children. If I do that who will feed my daughter? How can I pay her school fees?
What can I do: what can I alone do? isn’t there any body else who can take it up? There are so many social service organizations why are they not doing anything? If I approach one of these organizations will they ask me for money?
I know the above questions and my reasons to avoid getting into the trouble are not valid. I too have changed. I too am no longer the HUMAN.
And hence my final Question: Am I different from the fellow carrying that child and begging?
Apart from feeling bad and troubled is there anything else that im doing that is different from him?
Netizens tell me if I’m the only one like this? What can we do to put an end to this?
